Plan B Is Brought into Play

As you know, the title of this blog is Croatia or Bust?  Well bust it really is because tonight I am writing this blog from the side of Lake Garda in Italy rather than the side of Lake Bled in Slovenia.
The change of plan only came into play this morning when I went to check out of the site in Salzburg and was asked the question, "where are you heading?" This was after a night of non-stop torrential rain which had resulted in neither of us getting much sleep.
The site manager took a sharp intake of breath at the words Slovenia and then Croatia and said, "if you take my advice, head West."  Apparently the rains were likely to sit over these two countries for at least a week with some flooding anticipated and having checked the internet, we decided to take said advice and so here we are at Camping Del Garda in a delightful, sunny and very warm Italy.  Today's photo shows the sunny Italian sky as we come over the Brenner Pass.
We have just returned from eating our first meal of the holiday outdoors in the evening sunshine and this has served to soften some of the disappointment we are feeling at this late change to our plans.  At least the caravan has enabled us to follow the sun rather than sit in the rain.
The site by Lake Garda is gargantuan and anything but the type of place we would normally want to stay.  However, today has been a very tough tow through some pretty gruelling conditions and we just wanted to get the legs down somewhere and get a decent night's sleep and for that reason it ticks the boxes - but only for a couple of days which will enable us to review/revise plans for the next three weeks.  Who knows, the next update might be from Portugal!
